I Courted A Wee Lass
Album: NATIONAL MUSIC - IRELAND
Text
I courted a wee lass I loved her so well
That I hated all others that spoke of her ill
But now she's away and rewarded me well
She's away to get wed to another
When I saw my love to the church come
Bride and bride maidens they were a fine show
But I followed after with my heart full of woe
For to see my love wed to another
When I saw my love in the church stand
Gold rings on her fingers and her love by the hand
But the man who has got her, he has houses and land
But she was my all when he got her?
When I saw my love sit down to dine
Should I sat down beside her and I poured out the wine
I drank her health to that wee lass, whom I thought would be mine
But I had not the luck for to get her
When I saw my love in the bed lie
Should I lift up my hat and I bed her goodbye
I lift up my hat and I bed her goodbye
Sing I do to a false hearted lover
But the folk of the forest have asked of me
How many strawberries grow on the soil sea
And I answer them back with a tear in my eye
Oh how many ships sail in the forest
Go dig my grave both long large and deep
And plant over with red roses sweet
For it's there I'll lie down for to have a long sleep
And if that's the best way I'll forget her
